Borates
Add borates to stabilize pH and improve water feel.
Benefits of Borates
- pH Stability: Acts as a secondary buffer against upward pH drift.
- Algae Inhibitor: Borostats prevent algae cells from processing food, starving them out.
- Silky Water: Reduces surface tension for a smoother, softer swimming experience.
Pets & Safety
Borates are generally safe at recommended levels (30-50 ppm), similar to table salt toxicity. However, dogs who drink excessive amounts of pool water should be monitored. Always keep pure Boric Acid powder away from children and pets.

Not a Magic Bullet
While borates help stabilize pH and reduce chlorine consumption (by up to 20%), they do not replace sanitizer. You still need to maintain proper chlorine, pH, and alkalinity levels. Think of borates as a "performance booster" for your water.
Are Borates Safe?
Boric acid is classified as a reprotoxic substance in high concentrations (E.U. regulations). However, at the diluted levels used in swimming pools (0.005%), it is considered safe for swimmers by most international standards. As always, do your own research.
