Chlorine Neutralizer
Calculate how much neutralizer to add to reduce chlorine levels.
What is Chlorine Neutralizer?
Neutralizers (like Sodium Thiosulfate) are potent chemical reducing agents that chemically destroy chlorine on contact. They are used to quickly lower dangerous chlorine levels after an accidental overdose or before a pool party.
When to Use
Only use neutralizer if FC is dangerously high (e.g., > 10 ppm) and you need to swim immediately. Otherwise, it's often safer and cheaper to just let the sun naturally burn it off over a day or two.

Professional test kit.
Sodium Thiosulfate
This is the industry standard neutralizer. It works instantly. However, it affects Combined Chlorine readings, so wait 24 hours before testing for chloramines after using it.
Ascorbic Acid
Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) is a weaker, more expensive neutralizer. It's excellent for removing iron stains from pool steps, and a side effect is that it will lower your chlorine level.

pH Down
Lower pool pH effectively (Dry Acid).
Safety Caution
Add in small batches. It's easier to add more neutralizer than to fix a pool with zero chlorine.
Natural Alternative
The sun is the best neutralizer. On a bright summer day, UV rays can destroy 90% of unstabilized chlorine in 2 hours. Even with stabilizer, a day of sunshine will typically lower FC by 1-2 ppm reliably.
