Why Volume Matters

Every cubic foot of water contains 7.48 gallons. Calculating the cubic footage first is the most reliable method.

The 7.48 Constant
The number 7.48 is the conversion factor from cubic feet to gallons. If you are calculating in meters, 1 cubic meter = 264.17 gallons (or 1000 liters).

Round Pools
Round: Radius x Radius x 3.14 x Avg Depth x 7.48.
Be careful to use Radius (half width) and not Diameter! Using Diameter will quadruple your result incorrectly.
Complex Shapes
For kidney or freeform pools, divide the shape into smaller rectangles and circles (A + B). Calculate the volume of each section separately and add them together for the total.
